Kawandi workshop

Join me as I teach you how to create a Kawandi style quilt.

A Kawandi Quilt is a hand-stitched patchwork quilt that originated in Western India. The quilts are made from recycled scrap fabric, often including old saris. A sustainable way to create new, useful and beautiful textile art.

What You Will Learn in this Workshop

In this workshop, we will recycle old shirts and other fabric scraps that you might have otherwise discarded, into a colourful, unique, hand quilted place mat or small table runner. This is a great class to explore colour and texture with mindful slow stitching. It's a simple technique with lots of room to be creative.

This is a hand sewing class.

Scrap Roll-up (Homemade Jelly Roll)

In this workshop, we'll turn sewing room scraps into a vibrant home made jellyroll. Using paper rolls as a foundation, I'll guide you in transforming small bits of fabric into convenient jelly rolls. Learn to piece efficiently, reduce bulk, incorporate cherished stash remnants, and trim for a tidy, easily stored roll, unlocking endless possibilities for your future quilt patterns. The Scrap-rollup is perfect to use in your next scrap quilt, bag making or pouch project. I used a scrap-rollup in my quilt last year that won the Modern Category at FOQ.
